Sculpting Hands

Building the Armature

Step 1:

Using wire cutters, cut two 18" pieces from 20 gauge wire. Find the center point measured at 9" and bend in half. This center point will become the middle finger. Measure down 2-1/4" and bend the wire upward. Follow the template above to create the armature for the fingers.

Step 2:

Beginning in the middle, twist the finger armatures using needle nosed pliers. Do not distort the shape of the thumb, twisting it only two or three times.

Step 3:

Cut two 9" pieces of 20 gauge wire. Insert the wire through the lower loops (point A), pulling together to create the wrist. Twist short ends from the finger armatures onto the 9" wire.

Step 4:

Set each wrist on top of a short 3-4" piece of dowel rod. Twist the wire extensions around the rod in opposite directions.
